Since 1983, Nintendo has been spearheading the gaming industry. New generation gamers relate most gaming innovations to PlayStation or Xbox; however, Nintendo has been molding gaming new technology like shock controllers, motion controllers, 3D, etc.

In recent years, without Triple A ports on Nintendo consoles, gamers have favored PlayStation or Xbox due to their constant releases. This in turn has caused several accounts where Nintendo stocks have dropped. The Nintendo Switch now has the juice to put Nintendo back in the spotlight.

Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch will be a hybrid console. The main console will be docked to the TV, while part of the console can be disconnected to be used as a tablet. The Nintendo Switch will also include a controller that can either be used as gamepad or as 2 separate Wii controllers, allowing for multiplayer. The Switch will also support game cards (used in DS, DSI, 3DS) as well as digitally downloading games.

The Switch is estimated to have nearly 80 buyable games on release. In order to fix the lack of triple A titles Nintendo is collaborating with companies like Ubisoft and Activision to release mainstream titles onto the Nintendo Switch. Essentially, Nintendo would be playing the console exclusive game, having titles that are released on every console, along with its own titles. This can really propel Nintendo forward as people love nintendo’s releases, but wish for better triple A ports.

I’m personally very excited for the release of the Nintendo Switch. I grew up with the Commodore 64, the Atari, and my personal favorite : The Nintendo Entertainment System. To see a system that mixes the original style of controllers and gameplay with new innovations like motion control. To be able to play triple A titles with friends, be able to transport the system like an iPad, and play throwback Nintendo games is truly mind blowing. Be sure to look for the Nintendo Switch on shelves March 3rd. I know I will.
