With Finals week coming head-to-head with all Schaumburg High School students in a short span of two week, it’s time to lock up and try some study strategies to cram up for finals and get that A for your parents as their holiday present.

The following 6 study strategies are used by students all around Schaumburg High School which you can adopt and modify to your own liking to have a good time while studying.

1. Group it Up

All around the schaumburg area whether your friends are from Schaumburg, Conant, or even Barrington High School, if you’re learning the same curriculum and lessons you can develop study groups that can teach each other units, and keep each other liable for the lessons. Schaumburg High School student, Cassidy Leno shares her strategy, saying “Me and my friends, Jessie and Tahzeeb study in the library before important test days, and if we don’t have time to meet up, we just use our group chats and google hangouts to study together”.

2. Treat yo self

Simple utilitarian calculus indicates that your happiness always prevails over anything; and as much as studying makes everyone happy, sometimes it’s just not enough. Thus, the moment you end a study guide, a review, or any school-involved ordeal, take a bite of your favorite snack, watch a movie, or buy something online- Treat yo self to something good to gratify your hard work.

3. Live under a rock

Turn everything off. That means taking away your phone, game console, or anything that’s going to distract you from studying. To stop yourself from copping out and taking your phone out, have your parents or any other person keep your devices until the end of finals.

4. DON’T pull all-nighters the night before the test.

This is simple: study early = sleep early = feel good the next day. Study late = no sleep = feel awful the next day. Brandeis University conducted a study on the correlation of sleep and memory, proving what most of us already know (and profusely deny), more sleep provides more chances for a human being (and other species) to retain more information.

5. DIY review guides

In order to become close and personal with the content of your exam, make a study guide for yourself with questions you think are going to be on the exam; helping you familiarize with the concepts behind the subject you’re learning. And if you’re feeling extra lazy, simply use any search engine and look up study guides on the subject of your choice.

6. Make an itinerary…. a list
Before taking on any strategy, make a list of what your priority is (i.e. I have X the first day, and Y the last day for finals, so I should study for X first). Identify the areas you need more time to focus on, and the areas you do not really have to study in order to have a set schedule of what and when to study. If you’re super extra about studying, then just edit around your calendar by specifying on each day the subject and content you’re reviewing.

Now that you’re ready, mix, match, modify, or ignore (it’s your choice) these strategies, and go study since you literally just spent 5 minutes of your free time reading this article.
