This Wednesday, April 4th, Township High School District 211 is proud to present the inaugural D211 Career Expo. The event will be held at Palatine High School from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. At this event, students can expect to learn about a variety of careers and perhaps make professional connections. Students also will be able to apply for summer jobs and internships.

“Students will have access to professionals from all 16 Career Clusters under one roof,” says Tamara Hubbard who has worked closely with the Career Fair since its inception.

This event is designed to help students successfully find employment and explore possible career options. Instead of only focusing on abstract concepts that students practice in isolation at school, D211 students will finally get the opportunity to bring their interests and skills to bear in ways that will address the real world. On this night, students will be able to engage in career exploration in a controlled professionally oriented setting.

“Gaining career insights while in high school may help students narrow down their interests before going on to college or post-high school careers,” says Mrs.Hubbard.

Similarly, students will be able to “network” with experienced professionals who can help students hone their skills. By networking, students will be able to meet connections in the form of employers and interviewers who may help propel students towards future success. If everything goes well, students may even find available internships and apprenticeships in their fields of interest.

“For students interested in learning about available internships and apprenticeships, they will be able to meet companies offering these opportunities. Jobs, internships, and apprenticeships all strengthen students’ resumes, which may help open doors to additional experiences in their futures,” Mrs.Hubbard adds.

Students without transportation are able to take a bus provided by Schaumburg High School to the event. The bus will be leaving at 4:00pm.  All students participating in the bus ride will meet in the gym no later than 3:50pm. The bus will return to Schaumburg High School at roughly 7:00pm, at which point students must provide their own transportation home from SHS. The Career Trek Bus Form (http://shs.d211.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Career-Trek-Application2.pdf) must be turned in via emailed to Mrs.Hubbard at [email protected], turned in to to the Student Services office, or submitted to the corresponding drop box in the Career Trek Schoology course (FKG9T-MB42X).

Students attending should dress professionally, as they will be meeting with possible employers and interviewing for positions. Students are also encouraged to bring a typed resume. Instructions and blueprints on how to create a proper resume can be found in the District 211 Internship Schoology course (RPCG6-58VQR).

Students can pre-register here: https://goo.gl/bfPybM. Students don’t need to pre-register but are highly encouraged to do so. Finally, if students have any concerns about the event, email Mrs.Hubbard  at [email protected].  She is eager to answer any questions and clarify any confusion.
