The Schaumburg AM Rotary Club is excited to sponsor Schaumburg area high school students for the Rotary District 6440 Youth Leadership Conference.

This four day retreat takes place at Edwards Camp in East Troy, Wisconsin and is attended by students who have been identified as leaders. While the cost of the conference is $350, chosen students are fully sponsored by their local rotary clubs.  These local clubs fundraise all year to send these young leaders to the conference.

“The Schaumburg AM Rotary is proud to sponsor Schaumburg area high school student leaders by paying the costs for attendance at the Rotary District 6440 Teen Leadership Program,” according to a statement from the Schaumburg AM Rotary Club.

During the three-day conference, students will participate in activities such as obstacle courses, icebreakers, team-building tasks, and will listen to special guest speakers. This year’s guest speakers are Chris Norton, a former college football player who talks about the value of perseverance, Rick Metzger, a former body builder, and Tom Carroll, who gives a lecture about working with people of various generations in the workplace. On the last night, there is a bonfire and dance for teens.

At a camp with no WiFi and spotty cellphone service, students can expect to meet other young leaders like themselves and receive an in-depth learning experience. Rotary provides transportation for students. There are two sessions: March 7-10 and April 4-7.

In order to be considered for this great experience, current high school students must fill out the RYLA application and write a 500 word essay on the importance of youth leadership. If students are chosen by Schaumburg AM Rotary Club, they will receive a packet detailing bus pickup stops, a packing list, and a itinerary of the conference.

Students need to apply by January 30. If students have any questions or want to fill out an application, email Ann Everhart, Schaumburg AM Rotary Youth Services Chairperson at [email protected] or call at 847.923.3908.
