They’re red, they’re gold, they’re Out of This World! The SHS Marching Band has been hard at work for months, perfecting three standout songs for their highly anticipated 2024 halftime show.
The production, fittingly titled Otherworldly, debuted at the first home football game of the season on September 6th. The performance was a resounding success, generating excitement among both students and teachers. The buzz following the show was electric, with many praising the band’s versatility and high energy.
Band director Mr. Inendino could not have been more pleased. “My favorite part about this show is the wide range in the style of music—how we go from ‘Tank!’ with its funk sound from Cowboy Bebop, into Holst’s incredible classical pieces from The Planets, to ending with Metallica’s Master of Puppets,” he shared in an interview.
The diverse musical selection offers something for everyone, from band members to spectators.
The setlist includes Tank! from Cowboy Bebop, the iconic 1999 sci-fi anime; “Mars” and “Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s classical suite The Planets; and the heavy metal hit “Master of Puppets,” popularized in season 4 of Stranger Things.
However, the show’s success was no overnight achievement. Months of dedication and practice went into making Otherworldly a reality. “My favorite part of the show is when the flute and clarinet sections come together to form one line,” says flutist Jalia Kacsh.
“It symbolizes the unity we’ve built over months of hard work. Otherworldly really captures the audience’s attention and showcases our band’s motto, ‘From many, one.’ We’ve all come together to create something that truly impacts the community,” explains Kacsh.
The band is also debuting a brand new halftime show at Homecoming, themed entirely around Stranger Things. They will continue using “Master of Puppets” from their current show, but will add “Should I Stay or Should I Go” from season one, and finish with “Separate Ways,” featured in the season four trailer.
Don’t miss this unique pop culture performance at halftime of the Homecoming football game on Friday September 27th and the final performance of Otherworldly on October 18th.
