Schaumburg High School students now have a new way to make a difference and do their part through the UNICEF club.
UNICEF, which stands for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, is a global organization dedicated to supporting children’s rights, health, education, and safety. By joining UNICEF club, students help make positive changes in their community while gaining valuable experiences, learning new skills, and enriching their understanding of global issues.
LIFT mentors collected spare change in donation directly to the organization. Each LIFT class collected change in a UNICEF provided donation box and presented the collections to a club member. Students raised $1.1k donations which can fund: 220 years of water supply for individual children, 110 warm fleece blankets, 73 schools provided with soccer balls and 5g solar lamps to help children do their homework.
“It is important for the freshman to participate in helping make a change in the world, just as they needed help to start their own paths,” said LIFT mentor Chai Patel.
The main reason to join UNICEF club is the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children both locally and globally. UNICEF club helps support foundations by organizing fundraising events and projects. For example, the club runs events like bake sales or change/donation boxes to raise money for children in need of clean water, vaccines, or educational supplies.
By participating, you will be directly supporting essential programs that provide food, clean water, and safe living conditions for children in need worldwide. Knowing the impact your help gives to children, gives students a strong sense of purpose that will help build stronger values and understanding of those in need.
Another core aspect of UNICEF club is raising awareness on issues that affect children, such as access to education, healthcare, child labor, and safe living environments. Club Members discuss these topics and then educate other students and people in the community through presentations, social media posts, and special events. By spreading information, students help create a more informed school and community that is aware of the challenges faced by children around the world. This awareness helps community members develop a global perspective and encourages everyone to think about how they can contribute to positive change.
If you are already interested in such causes, joining UNICEF club connects you with others who care about similar causes. This club brings together students who share a desire to make a difference, creating a supportive and motivated community. This sense of community and shared purpose can makes school more fun and enjoyable while helping people.
Meetings are Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons from 3 to 4, twice a month at Schaumburg High School. Join to get a chance to develop crucial skills, form meaningful connections and most importantly make a difference!
