On September 28th, Schaumburg High School transformed into a festive celebration for the annual homecoming dance, themed “One World, One Night.” “One World, One Night” showcased sections inspired by iconic destinations—Rio, Paris, Athens, and Tokyo.
The entire week leading up to the homecoming dance was filled with fun. The festivities kicked off with a week-long series of events, including Spirit Week, movie night, pep assembly, and finally a varsity soccer, and a varsity football games under the lights.
Unfortunately, things did not go the Saxons’ way in both games. Soccer lost to Palatine 2-0, while the football team lost 35-0.
That didn’t stop the Saxons from putting on a stellar event. “The process was very fun and stressful but rewarding in the end,” said Aysha Patel, a Student Council board member. “I had a great group of amazing people that helped bring my complicated vision for the gym to life. Decorating for these big events creates a beautiful environment that helps make everyone’s night even more special.”
Preparation for Homecoming began weeks in advance, with Student Council members putting in countless hours to bring their visions to life. The board members initially selected the theme and the corresponding destinations for each grade.
Diya Patel, also a Student Council board member, stated, “We all worked together, using our all to create a beautiful night for ourselves and for our classmates. There were so many people pulling their weight, which was the only way we effectively created a stunning evening for all to enjoy.”
The decorations included the Eiffel Tower backdrop in the Paris section, colorful umbrellas in the Tokyo area, and so much more. The decorations transformed the school and added to the nights excitement.
Students had an amazing time while creating new memories with their friends. Homecoming serves as a much-needed break from the routine of busy schedules, and students definitely look forward to it each year.
“It was a really fun night with my friends,” said Jianna Kerimi, a junior, varsity cheerleader. “It was the best one yet!”
With Homecoming Week now behind us, many students are still reminiscing on the night. Here’s to many more Homecoming memories in the years to come!
