Schaumburg High School’s HOSA chapter (Health Occupations Students of America) is making waves with their latest event initiative, “The Mind Shift,” a student-led mental health campaign aimed at addressing the effects of stress and offering tools for students to better manage their mental health. With finals looming, this campaign, led by Tanvi Shah, Sanvi Shah, and Visha Patel, couldn’t come at a better time for teens navigating the pressures of school life.
“The Mind Shift” focuses on stress, one of the most prevalent mental health challenges faced by high school students. They seek to educate the school community about its impact and ways to address it.
“With our campaign, The Mind Shift, we aim to inform students in our school community about the effects of stress—a mental health concern that is so prevalent—its relation to burnout, and share tips on how to combat stress,” said Tanvi Shah.
The initiative encourages students to reframe negative thoughts into positive affirmations, prioritize self-care practices like sleep, hydration, and exercise, and rely on support systems such as friends and family. By promoting mindfulness and goal-setting, the campaign aims to help students break tasks into smaller, more manageable steps and focus on progress rather than perfection.
Stress can affect students in profound ways, leading to issues like self-criticism, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and burnout.
“Stress affects everyone differently, but we believe it’s crucial to understand these signs and address them before they escalate,” added Visha Patel.
With 45% of high school students reporting that they feel stressed every day, initiatives like “The Mind Shift” provide vital support for the school community.
The team’s vision extends beyond just raising awareness. By actively working to provide actionable solutions and resources, the “Mind Shift” team plans to distribute informational brochures in classrooms, host workshops, and conduct student interviews to ensure the campaign resonates with students and staff alike. Additionally, the team is utilizing social media to extend their impact. Their Instagram page, @themindshiftinsta, is a hub for self-care challenges, stress management tips, and updates on campaign events. The team encourages everyone to follow the account and engage with their content to take small but meaningful steps toward improving mental health.
As finals approach, the HOSA students leading “The Mind Shift” are working tirelessly to remind their peers that they’re not alone in facing stress. By promoting awareness, providing resources, and creating a space for meaningful conversations, they’re making a lasting impact on Schaumburg High School’s mental health culture.
