With the ending of Jujutsu Kasien by Gege Akutami having come and gone, we can look at the series as a whole and recommend it to potential fans. With intense battles, insane action, and thought provoking moments, Jujutsu Kasien takes fans into high stakes journeys that are sure to captivate readers.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a shonen manga (Japanese comics meant for young men) which is at its best during fights and certain peaks. The series is good match for someone who looks for that above all. I would recommend it to any anime watcher or manga reader who enjoys modern works such as Chainsaw Man or Demon Slayer.
The author, Gege Akutami, released a few one-shots with the publisher Shonen Jump, but Jujutsu Kaisen is by far his best, and most well-known, work.
The action is some of the best stuff this story has to offer. Every arc is filled with incredibly flashy fights and awesome powers. These moments shine especially in the anime, made by the award-winning MAPPA studio, who adapted the story incredibly.
The fights involve a mixture of martial arts and sorcery techniques that blend beautifully in bombastic battles. The best fights happen during the Culling Games arc, which has not been animated, but looks very promising.
The writing largely serves to bring the plot from battle to battle. It’s good if you want something fairly mindless where you don’t have to read or pay attention to everything to enjoy.
Where the original writing falls short, the anime is able to fill in and improve plot holes or hard-to-understand points, such as character backstories and motivations.
Plot is Jujutsu Kaisen’s weak point. If plot and great writing are something you need to enjoy a series, this might not be for you. As mentioned earlier, the writing mostly serves to bring on the next fight.
The series would be good for fans of JoJos Bizarre Adventure, One Piece, or Demon Slayer. Though the anime is not yet finished, the first two seasons are enjoyable, and the series overall is fairly short, and one could finish it with about two months of on-and-off reading.
The community is also mostly kind and welcoming, with many fans still active after the final chapter came out on September 30th
All in all, Jujutsu Kaisen is a short-but-sweet action-packed manga that many could enjoy.
