On February 27, 2025, Schaumburg High School hosted yet another successful Diversity Fair, celebrating cultural traditions—and, for the first time ever, introducing a dance spotlight that brought the event to life. With more participation than ever before, this year’s fair was both vibrant and inspiring.
The Diversity Fair is an opportunity for students to proudly share their cultures with the school community. They offered homemade dishes, interactive games, colorful displays, and hands-on activities. “It’s a time where people can be together,” SHS Senior Sonjoe Zamora said, “and try new things and cultures.”
“It was a really fun experience, and I’m happy that I participated in this joyous experience,” SHS Sophomore Jasleen Hanji added.
This year’s standout addition was “The Spotlight”—a central stage where each table had a chance to perform a traditional dance. After every class period, students and staff would gather to watch as representatives from different cultures showcased movement, music, and storytelling through dance. The energy was contagious, with spectators clapping along, cheering, and celebrating each performance.
“It was an exciting experience, being in the spotlight,” SHS Junior Cheska Manding said, “especially since it was my first time doing [the dance].”
The fair truly reflected the richness and diversity of the SHS student body. Tables featured vibrant displays of traditional clothing, symbolic decorations, and meaningful history lessons. Many groups spent weeks preparing—meeting every Thursday to plan their dances, cook traditional meals, and create eye-catching designs that reflected their heritage.
“The thing I loved the most was seeing people representing their backgrounds, and understanding their cultural identity,” SHS Sophomore Charlotte Herman said.
Throughout the day, the energy and engagement never slowed. This year’s fair was held in a larger location to accommodate more tables, giving even more students a chance to take part and spectators a chance to explore. Flags, music, and enticing aromas filled the air, transforming the space into a global celebration.
As the tradition continues to grow, the SHS community looks forward to next year’s fair—where even more voices, stories, and celebrations will take center stage.
