Scared Scriptless Returns: SHS Improv Brings Unscripted Laughs. The Schaumburg High School Scared Scriptless Improv Show will take the stage Tuesday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 11, at 3:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.
The long-running SHS tradition of improv shows continues, once again bringing laughs and surprises to their crowds. Although each show features hilarious comedy, the similarity ends there. No two shows are ever the same. The lack of a script allows for students’ creativity to shine, as performers create scenes on the spot. Each show is unique and directly based on the performers’ choices.
This year’s team consists of Drake Garcia, Alyssa Ginter, Bradley Hooper, Heathcliff Munoz, Sofia Osman, Ewan Russell, Zach Swanson-Tkacz, and Kylie Walock. The show will also include appearances by Mr. Peterson and Mrs. Means. Student directors Adan Esparza & Nadia Viola Razzak help the show run seamlessly.
The biggest draw of Scared Scriptless is its unpredictability. Every joke, character, and storyline is created in real time, which guarantees fresh material and plenty of surprises. “It’s exciting because you never know what will happen—neither do we! Ha!” said Mrs. Micheletto, one of the sponsors of Scared Scriptless.
Beyond the laughter, Scared Scriptless also serves as an invaluable opportunity for students to grow as performers and individuals. “Improv challenges students to be fearless, since every scene is made up on the spot,” Micheletto explained. The skills improv teaches are invaluable, as performers learn how to channel the confidence it inspires into all aspects of their lives.
Beyond the skills students learn and take away from the Improv Show, Scared Scriptless creates a community that is fun and enjoyable for the performers. It is a highlight for many students. Senior Bradley Hooper, explains “After doing improv for three years, I would say that it is one of, if not my favorite, shows of the year.”
The Scared Scriptless performances are open for all to attend–whether you’ve seen multiple Improv shows, or if you never have attended any, this will be perfect for you . The Wednesday afternoon show, in particular, is scheduled so students can still take the activity bus home after attending the show. Furthermore, the show requires no admission fee and is free to all attendees.
