As winter break approached, Schaumburg High School’s hallways were transformed into a festive Winter Wonderland thanks to the creativity and hard work of the Student Council. From cheerful decorations to spirited events, their efforts helped bring the entire school community together and spread holiday joy.
One of the highlights was the themed doorways, where several classroom entrances were turned into gingerbread house façades, complete with colorful “candy” details and winter designs. In addition to decorating, the Student Council organized a week of festive dress-up days leading up to winter break.
Students and staff alike joined in the fun by wearing their favorite Christmas sweaters, cozy hats and scarves, and other holiday-themed outfits. The dress-up days encouraged school spirit and gave everyone a chance to celebrate together during a busy time of year.
The celebrations concluded with a holiday party that welcomed around 60 kids. The event featured crafts, games like a reindeer ring toss, and a special Santa area, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere for everyone who attended. One of the most popular attractions was the Grinch-themed obstacle course, which added laughter and friendly competition.
“My role in the holiday party was to be an elf and truly capture the effect of being in another dimension for the kids through the Grinch’s Lair obstacle course. Through this experience, it brought both me and the kids so much joy. I believe being part of these kinds of events really helps bring the community together–not only through the little kids, but also through setting up and collaborating with all the Student Council members,” said Irina Stroe, a member of the Student Council.
“I was an elf at the party and seeing the kids’ faces light up when they beat the Grinch was so much fun. It meant a lot to me to give back to the school and community around us. School spirit doesn’t mean just dressing up for games but also helping run events within the school and showing up for the people who show up for you,” shared Daniel Holman, another member of the Student Council.
Another favorite part of the celebration was the arts and crafts station, where children had the opportunity to make their own gingerbread houses alongside Student Council members. Additionally, several students volunteered to paint the kids’ faces, adding to the festive atmosphere with holiday designs and bright colors. These hands-on activities allowed students to connect with younger participants and made the event even more interactive and memorable.
“The holiday party is one of the funnest and most entertaining events to set up each year. Just seeing the kids’ faces light up as they walk through the hallway makes it all worth it. It’s a core memory for the kids and something they look forward to every year,” said Olivia Fifanska, a Student Council Executive Board member.
“We were able to give back to our incredible staff through the Holiday Party. It’s always great to see our staff and their families smiling at the party each year,” shared Ayush Patel, another Student Council Executive Board member.
Through their creativity, planning, and dedication, the Student Council once again turned the winter season into a memorable experience for our school, carrying on a cherished tradition they uphold every year.
