Prom season is officially here, and students have a chance to get free prom tickets while enjoying a fun and stylish event. The annual Prom Fashion Show, hosted by the Junior Class Club, will take place on Wednesday, April 1, in the school auditorium for an hour, giving students an exciting preview of prom looks and the opportunity to win prizes.
The last time the school hosted the event was before COVID, when it was organized by the VIP group. The Junior Class Club helps plan events such as dances, fundraisers, and school spirit activities to support their class. They often raise money for prom and class projects by hosting events and promoting them through posters. Members also work together to represent the junior class and build a school community.
“We started planning slowly by figuring out different prom themes, then chose one that stood out during our first few meetings,” said Deeksha Rajalingamgari, the Junior Class Club President.
Admission to the event is $5 cash, which includes five chances to win free prom tickets and other prom-related prizes, such as post-prom tickets, a free week of spray tanning, nail certificates, floral gift certificates, free tuxedos, and restaurant gift cards.
They are collaborating with the prom DJ, Spinnin’ Discs, for music and lighting. Flowers will be provided by Fabbrini’s Flowers. The tuxes are from Essence Formalwear and they have donations from local nail salons, tanning salons, coffee shops, and restaurants.
For students who want to increase their odds, every additional $10 donation earns 10 more chances to win.
The fashion show will feature prom attire and showcase styles students might see this spring. Student volunteers will model a variety of dresses, suits, and accessories. Models may be offered free hair and makeup services for their contributions.
Beyond the prizes, the event is a chance for students to come together, get inspired for prom night, and support the community. The audience will also be involved through prom song requests and raffles.
Winners will be announced at the end of the event. Staff members will draw the winning numbers at the end of the show, and students will be able to claim their prizes.
“Seeing the efforts made by our sponsors Mrs. Favia and Mrs. Robertson, I see this event being successful and it will become even bigger if we were to do it again next year!” remarked Deeksha.
Many students appreciate that the fashion show turns prom preparation into a shared experience rather than just an individual event. Schaumburg High School prom is usually held at the Westin in Itasca in early May, giving students plenty of time to prepare for the event. The Junior Class Club is currently considering a prom theme such as a Masquerade Ball but discussions are still taking place.
