The varsity dance team recently competed at the MSL Conference competition held at Rolling Meadows High School, earning an impressive top-five finish in the 3A division. The result marked the team’s highest conference placement of the season and reflected months of dedication, growth, and hard work.
At the competition, the team performed a single lyrical routine that stood out to both judges and spectators. The routine showcased the dancers’ emotional connection, technical improvement, and overall performance quality, ultimately earning the team its highest score of the season. This performance played a key role in securing their top-five conference finish.
Preparation for the season has involved focused and consistent practices emphasizing technique, choreography cleaning, conditioning, and performance quality. Practices typically last around two hours and are held multiple days each week, allowing the team to continually refine their routines while prioritizing dancer health and balance.
Since the beginning of the season, the team has made noticeable progress in technique, synchronization, musicality, and execution. Beyond technical improvement, the dancers have also grown in confidence and maturity, learning how to perform with emotional depth while functioning as a unified team on the floor.
The MSL Conference competition featured several schools from across the conference, with teams evaluated on criteria including technique, synchronization, difficulty, choreography, spacing, and overall performance quality. Judges placed a strong emphasis on clean execution and performance presence, both of which contributed to the team’s success.
Overall, the dance program has shown tremendous growth over the past few years. Continued improvement in performance quality, confidence, and competitive results highlights the commitment of the athletes and coaches involved. As the program continues to rebuild and grow, the focus remains on developing strong dancers, leaders, and teammates while building a promising future for the team.
“Being on the dance team has not only made me grow tremendously as a dancer, but also as a person. This team has taught me so much resilience and how to motivate myself when I feel like giving up. The bond we share as a team is so strong and my favorite memories from this season are the team bondings we have the night before every competition where we watch team film, gives notes to each other, and just really motivate each other to want to do our best and do it for us,” said Adrian Akiti, a junior.
”I have improved most on my leadership and team working skills. I have choreographed multiple routines and kiddy camp dances for the Schaumburg Sizzlers. Through the process of choreographing and teaching, I have learned what it is like to become a role model and influence the next generation of dancers here at Schaumburg,” said Lauren Trybus, a senior.
