Schaumburg High School is excited to host its annual Latin Night dance on Saturday, Feb. 21st, from 7–10 p.m. in the school gym. This celebration of Latin American music and culture has been a highlight at SHS for four years, and this year promises to be just as lively. Tickets are limited, and the event is open to students district-wide, so anyone is welcome to join the fun!
Attendees can expect a vibrant mix of Latin music across all genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone’s taste. The dance will also feature performances and activities that showcase the richness of Latin culture, making it more than just a night of dancing.
While February was chosen simply because the space was available, planning the event required careful coordination. Members of Latinos Unidos worked closely with school administration to plan and approve all the details, including decorations and event logistics.
Students play a big role in bringing Latin Night to life. They help with decorating, organizing, and making sure the night runs smoothly. One of the favorite moments for organizers is seeing students from across the district come together to enjoy the music, dance, and community spirit.
Cultural clubs create belonging, amplify student voices, preserve traditions, and encourage meaningful cross-cultural connections within schools.
“I love being part of Latinos Unidos because it gives all of us Latinos a space to come together and celebrate our culture. I have been in the club for three years, and this year as an officer I helped plan events like Latin Night, where we can enjoy Spanish music and Latin dances that are not usually part of school events. We welcome everyone, and I hope the club continues to grow so more people can experience and learn about Latin culture,” said Kelly Garcia, a senior.
“I hope students walk away with a deeper appreciation for the diversity within Latino cultures, not just traditions, but also values, histories, and everyday experiences. I hope this builds empathy, and recognizes the important contributions Latinos make to our school and community. I also hope this understanding encourages respect, inclusion, and pride in our shared and individual identities,” added Karina Perez, a senior.
