Beginning on Monday, September 20 and culminating with the annual dance on Saturday, September 25, Schaumburg High School celebrated its 51st Homecoming festivities. 

Because of Covid spacing requirements, The “Out of This World” themed Homecoming looked a bit different this year. The dance, which normally takes place in the main gym, was held in the North Parking Lot.  ADD details about the dance being in the parking lot. 

We knew we wouldn’t be able to fit 1200 students in the gym, so we knew we needed to be creative,” stated Student Council sponsor Mrs. Wienke. “Our thought was that we could do something outdoors. Because there are so many street festivals and concerts in Chicago, we knew that we could do it. 

For the first time since the 2019 Homecoming assembly, students gathered in the Gary Scholtz Stadium to celebrate and promote Homecoming. Like always, students assembled by class, only this year, students occupied the bleachers and were separated by the football field.

“I think we were all very excited just to have a homecoming again and especially the pep rally,” Senior Bianca DiSandro added. “Dressing up for homecoming and going to the pep rally really brought out an unspoken unity in all of us, and we are all just very excited for our last run.”

Unfortunately, both the football and soccer teams lost their respective games. The football team was defeated by Palatine High School by 34-0, while the soccer team lost to Conant 3-0. 

The annual Powderpuff game between junior and senior girls was replaced with a socially distanced kickball game. However, the Junior and Senior classes organized an off-site powderpuff game that took place at Keller Junior High. The seniors came out victorious.

Additionally, Seniors were invited to watch sunrise on Thursday, September 23. Coffee and donuts were provided. School officials wanted to provide seniors with the opportunity to spend time with friends and classmates.

“Even though the sun didn’t come out that day, we were able to bond, and it was great way for the seniors to reconnect after quarantine,” said senior Julia Wiecek.
